Skyline Heerlen 1972

"Skyline Heerlen 1972", Heerlen-The Netherlands. Oil on MDF, 50 x 40 cm.
I painted this work to remember how I saw the skyline of the city Heerlen when I was 7. On regular basis me and my family visited this city for shopping and my father's work. These were the last days of the Dutch coal mines. Lange Jan and Lange Lies (Long John and Long Lisa) were the highest smoke stacks (155 m) of the privately held Oranje Nassau coal mine. Those stacks were part of the power station house to fuel the coal mine lifts and factories.
The painting is made with permission based on a picture made by Fred Fouarge, I added the coalmine to it including the mine stone piles.

This is work is painted with Royal Talens Cobra, the premium water mixable oil paint.

Autumn at the Onze-Lieve-Vrouweplein, Maastricht

Evening Autumn light beams over the Onze-Lieve-Vrouweplein (the Our Lady Square) in Maastricht. One of Maastricht's most beloved squares where you can sit down on a café/restaurant terrace. The square is a busy meeting place during Spring and Summer. Along the square the Our Lady "Sterre der Zee" (Star of the Sea) Basilica is situated. The church building originates from the 1st century B.C. Painted in impressionistic style in one stage.

Plein Air painter mr Koetsier in Hampstead

In a fancy London suburb, named Hampstead I met this fellow Londoner plein air painter. He had a very small postcard size palet and he admitted it is very small. His name A.L. Koetsier. A Dutch name because his English mother was married with a Dutchman. What a great meeting it was.

"Spring stroll along the Maas" oil on canvas, 80 x 60cm. Montmartre aan de Geul 2014

"Spring stroll along the Maas", the old bridge in Maastricht with the steel connection bridge uplifted to give way for an approaching river cargo ship. Oil on canvas, 80 x 60 cm.

I gave a paint demo on the today's "Montmartre along the Geul" festival in the very lovely and tiny "mountain"-city Valkenburg (NL). People were astonished that I started with a full orange painted canvas and that I blocked the whole in with very thin layers. Slowly but surely the light appeared in the painting. Some people found that a magical way of working while we, read paint artists, know this is the road to go. A cosy and busy painting and creative festival, with a cosy terrace and a very good singer who song French classics to cheer the whole up, very well visited overday. A friend came by as well as my sister with my brother in law, what a nice surprise. The overview picture was taken at the end of this nice and warm Sunday.
